Hi all at OCUK

Im hoping you can help me, i currently have the following mobo (K8N Neo2 Platinum) and i want to upgrade my CPU from (AMD Athlon 64 3700+) to somethink faster but cash is low and wondered what CPU you guys would recommend for my current MOBO as i dont have a clue when it comes to computers etc.

Thanks All

Carl

Well like i said this is the one i have now (A64 3700+San Diego 90nm) and i play online games a lot like wow, lotro and up coming cod4, and been told i should upgrade my CPU to somehtijnk that will play these games with ease, but when it comes to computers etc i dont have a clue, and cant afford to upgrade my system to PCI just yet, so i need input on which is the best CPU for that i need but (cheap) as cash is low, and admit my current CPU seems to struggle when under pressure in playing games like wow and lotro, but i dont have a clue like i said and if i have to update the bios then im completly ***&^&** lol.

Updating the BIOS is usually simple.

There's no point in getting another single-core CPU, so the X2 3800+ is the logical upgrade path.

yes the 3800+ x2 would be a good choice but after reading your 2nd post, you simply want games to run faster untill you do a full upgrade. The fact is that, although dual core is abviously better than single core, most of your games won't really run any better. If you want your games to run faster then i would say upgrade the x800 AGP to an x1950pro. You will see a huge improvement in all games from this.

Agree. Save up a bit and get an x1950pro. You probably wouldnt notice any difference if you got the 3800+ cpu, unless you overclocked it. The gfx card would give you a much greater performance increase. I went from an x800xt to an x1800xt while using a 3700+ and the improvement was huge.

Erm i have managed to get a x1950pro (agp) 512mb, and installed it and i dont know if im doing somethink wroing, or i need to change somethink in either the bios or the cartaylist settings but i cant tell the difference between my old card x800xl (agp 256) and my new card, so am i doing somethink wrong with the settings ?

I dont have a clue, when i do a format or update drivers for my last card (x800xl) i usual uninstall them and it asks for a restart, once im back online i do a search for all ATI software and then delete them, and do a regedit and remove again any ATI software or bits related to it and then do a reboot and install new drivers and reboot and bobs ya uncle, now since ive put the (X1950pro) in when playing games like cod2 and lord of the rings online, its just the same as when playing with my old card i cant see a difference, so i dont need if i have to do somethink in the bios but i never really mess with the Catalyst Control Center Settings as i dont have a clue what im doing lol. so im completly lost
