CPU hitting 80 degrees

Hello all,

Currently I have one of the intel liquid cpu coolers, I think it's the 'RTS2011LC', so pre-built/sealed unit.

I usually leave my comp on all the time, however I was away for a couple of days and when I came back it had shut itself off. I powered on and carried on as normal, though I noticed there was a bit more noise coming from inside that usual. After 30-40 mins or so it died and I had a CPU temp warning at boot-up.

It's hasn't died again so far, however I checked the Asus thermal radar app and it looks like the CPU is idling around 65 degrees and reaching about 84 under load. It doesn't feel too hot inside the case and the temp readings for the other components are all fine.

I felt the two pipes and noticed that one is really hot while the other doesn't have any feeling to it. Does anyone know if this is normal or does it sound like something's busted with it? I reckon I've had it probably 5+ years or so, maybe just needs replacing?

It sounds like your pump is failing/failed

both tubes should be roughly the same temp one should not be massively hotter than the other with a decent flow speed.

For a water cooled unit 65 Idle is insane and seems to indicate the unit is just using the water to self cool without movement.

Hm, I had a bad feeling that might be the case.

If I get a replacement cooler of the same model, will I need to get some of the thermal paste stuff as well? I've never had to mess around with components, other than slotting in PCI stuff, as this PC was delivered pre-built and I've never had trouble with my CPU/coolers in the past. It's an i5 ivybridge if that makes any difference.

usally most coolers come with some sort of thermal paste already on the mount end, BUT seperately purchased compounds are generally of better quality and better temps.

It's up to you to wait and see and risk more delay or just buy some anyway.

hope that kinda helps.
