CPU hot even with water cooling

Ever since I bought the X2 4200+ with Asus A8N32-SLI mobo the CPU has always been running hot compared to what other people posted. Today I have installed watercooling and my temps still seem to be very high. On idle at 2.5GHz it's 36C (core temp) and on load it goes up to 47C (core temp). I've seen quite a lot of people posting their temps in mid 20s for the same CPU.
When I was running my sytem on air using Cool & Quiet at 1.1GHz idle the temp was 36C and 51 on load (2.4GHz).
What might be the reason for these temps? Is my room hotter than everyone elses? Temps do drop a few degrees when I open the window but I don't think they will drop below 30C.

sounds like bad IHS contact with the cpu core.

does the temp shoot up really fast when you put load on?

with watercooling it tends to shoot up a lot slower than air. its more gradual.

if its going up fast its a sure fire bad contact

I just checked it now and the temp went up from 36 to 43 in around 20 seconds and then stayed at 43.

One other thing that i've noticed between air and water cooling temps is that core temp and CPU temp were the same on air but on water cooling the core temp is around 3-4C lower than CPU temp (that's on idle) and then at load the core temp is usually a few degrees higher than CPU

A fridge thermometer will do the job, £1 from pound shop. Does seem hot though, is case cooling sufficient? My 4400+ X2 @ 2.2ghz idles at 25-30 degrees with CNQ disabled. Ninja cooler.

Even if I take the side panel off and put a few strong fans on the temperature does not change very much.

Need to get some of these fridge thermometers.

I have the latest BIOS, all 3 previous BIOSs reported these high temps.

I've googled this and it seems that the temps seem to vary a lot for this processor. Some people have reported idle temps of 29 on stock HSF and some even up to 60C. The temps seem to be very inconsistent. Maybe it depends on the mobo as well.

I got myself a thermometer today and the temperature in the room with a small window open is 28-29C. I think this explains why the CPU temps are this high.
