Cpu in games

Hello,

I currently have an i7 960 at 4gz and a 7950 (my monitor is 1920x1200) . I am considering an upgrade but having trouble determining how much extra performance in gaming a new cpu will actually have, which will determine the direction of my investment. I normally play guild wars, which as an mmo I take is cpu limited? The game feels sluggish and I think it is cpu related but hard to tell.

When reading reviews I typically see numbers such as 1 or 2 fps improvement in games on changing cpu but it is hard to gauge how the incremental changes over the last 5 years has added up. Does anyone have any experience regarding this or is there a good resource someone can point me towards?

Buy a used x5650 for £55, then spend all you pennies on GPU power.
your 960 would sell for the same sort of cash so would be a free upgrade

buying an x5650 will get you a extra year or 2 out of your x58 rig and will get you to the next intel/AMD cpu release

It sounds like WoW, 800fps in your garrison and 20 fps on world boss.

Hmm.. It is the opposite of what I thought. Will look into the xeon though!
