CPU is holding back my system

ok I have a poor cpu. whenever I play a game the cpu is running at 100%.
I get just 12 fps on Test Drive Unlimited.

My specs are.
Sapphire x1950 pro 256mb
1.5 gig ram
Vista Business
Akasa Ultra Quiet 400W Paxpower Active PFC ATX2.0 PSU
Intel celeron 3.2 ghz cpu-z pic below

So how much is my processor slowing me down. What advice can you give for a new processor and motherboard. Thanks.

just a no frills motherboard. If I were to upgrade the CPU i'd ditch it anyway.

Ram is
Corsair 1GB Kit (2x512GB) DDR2 PC2-5300/5400
and standard generic DDr2 pc2-4200.

I'm going to try my system without the generic ram. and I might invest in another corsair ram kit but probably the 2gb kit. Will this run sweet with my current corsair ram? thanks

Ok I'm looking to buy now in the next week or so. I've been trying to think about a budget but I think it's probably more appropriate to post my specs and then hopefully you guys can give me the low down.

GPU - Sapphire X1950 Pro 256mb
Ram - 1 gig pair of Corsair DDR2 PC2-5300/5400
2 gig pair of same Corsair ram
PSU - Akasa Ultra Quiet 400W Paxpower Active PFC ATX2.0 PSU
OS - Vista Business

Currently have a shocking celeron CPU and a generic motherboard.

Looking to spend between £150 - £170. Can push to £200 only if performance will greatly benefit. Also think I'll be looking at chips that can be overclocked so maybe a CPU cooler and 2 case fans (one in one out)

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

cool thanks. Could anyone approximate how much this would increase my gaming performance? Its kind of weird as I can run some games like Rfactor and Toca Race Drive 3 on very high settings and see FPS of 25 Min to 60 Max but then in Test Drive Unlimited I get 10 and its the same in NFS carbon. I don't just play driving games btw. Quake 4 I get 30 FPS.

How overclockable is that CPU? Is there an alternative AMD chip?

Thanks for replies. Had a breakthrough after checking my motherboard. It's an Intel DQ9650CO
and it supports Core2Duo!!!

The main bit that I gathered was that it can support core2duo in an LGA775 socket with a 1066 or 800 MHz system bus and it uses a Q965 chipset. So my final question is - Will it be compatible with the Allendale E4400 Allendale E4400 I can see no reason why not. Is there anything on the motherboard that will really holdback my system?

Many thanks

Main reason for my post was to get you to increase the amount of ram you had, particularly as you are on vista. Have you noticed much of a speed boost, assuming you have your new bits installed ?

Haven't received the new ram yet so cannot say. Going away for the weekend so i'll hopefully have it on Monday. Will post changes. Thanks
