My CPU and system is running quite hot in this weather so I reckon I am going to buy some stuff to sort it out. Not to mention that the retail cooler is annoyingly loud.

Currently got 1 120mm fan in my case and the retail cooler on my Dual Core 3800.

Thinking of buying 2 120mm Akasa Amber fans (case allows you to put an additional one in to cool hard drives) and a Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro.

I'd also need some thermal paste though but I am not sure which is best? The Arctic Ceramique Thermal Compound is out of stock, is the Artic Silver 5 any good?

And also what will I need to clean the remains of the pad (I think the retail cooler comes with a pad on the bottom right?) from the cpu and the bottom of the heatsink? And is the procedure for removing the remains on the CPU exactly the same for the cooler? Thanks.

Artic Silver 5 is very good stuff, the best really.

If all you have at the moment is an exhaust then you're doing the right thing by bringing an intake (And maybe another exhaust if you can squeeze it into your case somewhere?)

You can buy stuff called TIM Cleaner, it removes both thermal paste and thermal pads with ease, not sure if you can get it from here though. Search for "Paste remove" on here and you should get a few results for home brew cleaning methods.

Arctic silver 5 will do the job just fine, as for removing the old stuff just use some cotton wool or even your wife/girlfriends makeup pad thingy, that should clean it off well enough.

An Akasa Amber fan can be both an exhaust and intake right, depending on which way round you install it? :o :o

Also, if screw holes aren't provided for extra fans, what ways can you squeeze them in?

Yep, a common confusion, don't feel stupid :p

Well, by squeeze I meant cut a hole for the fan in your case side/top and screw holes, but it's not really necessary.

Ah I see.

So basically I am going to buy two Akasa Ambers and replace the loud 120mm fan in my case at the back (exhaust) with one of them and then put the other on the side of the hard drive rack (unusual layout, the hard drives face you as you open the case). Should I have that fan blowing air on to my hard drive (which is running at about 42c) or have it blowing air on to my motherboard and it's components?
