CPU is stuck to the heatsink.

Hi,

Just removed my mates stock s478 heatsink.
And the cpu is welded on it hasn't been removed for a few years!


How will I get the cpu off?

Use a hairdryer to heat the heatsink. Wiggle and twist the cpu and it will eventually come off - it may take a while.

That or use a flat heated screwdriver

Get a razor blade and slide it down between the CPU and the heatsink after you've warmed it up a touch.. Always works for me

put a small heater on the hsf and after about 30 secs in fell off

Did the same as per the above thread and pulled the hsf and cpu out in one go - only 4 pins needed straigthening. This was in the same weekend that the mobo died, raptor packed in and a memory module died - almost chucked the lot out of the window.
