I am thinking of getting the Intel 905 Dual Core thingy which is nicely overclockable I hear however I have a meager abit-IC7 motherboard, now being a computer noob I need to know - are these compatible?

Also, I'm sure I have a shoddy arse cooling system (I basically want to overclock the CPU to above 3Ghz (as I currently have a Northwood 3.0GHz) so will it be able to do that?

What's the easiest way to get air cooling to a good level without spending too many bucks?

Cheers guys! :)

I thought the IC7 were socket 478...the new dual core intel chips are socket 775. (805 chip is the low end one which is supposedly very good for overclocking)

there are some cheap abit boards on ocshop...

abit used to be ace when oscar wu was with them, the ic-7 was an immense mobo but hes now at dfi churning out beasts so abit now suck.

if you wanted to jump on the intel 805 wagon, you will need a 775 mobo, ddr ram, new psu, pci-e grfx and a huge @55 cooler.

Tbh with conroe round the corner and 60% cuts in price for cpus as well, its not worth it as of this moment.
