CPU keeps dropping in frequency

I have a AMD Althon 64 3500+ which normally runs at 2.19ghz. However, if i play Counterstrike source the frequency will drop to 984Mhz. I have never noticed this before until yesturday. I have Formatted the HDD and Reinstalled windows and received no joy.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Its Kinda puzzling me.

Cool and quiet installed?

Try disabling cool n quiet in the bios.

I forgot to add, its a compaq/hp computer, so the bios is their own 'software'. There arent many controls in the bios that I can play with. and I havent seen an option called Cool and Quiet.

Just had a look at the bios and there isnt much to choose from in terms of options.

Check the power settings in Control panel are set to Always on, then check your cpu temps.

Just checked the cpu temps in bios:

Before they were:

CPU 41 c/ 104 f
System 36 c/ 95 f

After:

CPU 44 c/ 111 f
System 35 c/ 95 f

Just had a few rounds on CS:S and owned, checked the cpu frequency and it was running at 2.2ghz.

just because it a hp/compaq machine the bios **** still have cool and quite settings as its part of the AMD CPU you have

How do u change those settings?

just check youre power control panel and check that the profile in use is set to Always on. Alternatively, you can get AMD power monitor from amd web site and it will show what is happening to your amd processor and also allow you to change power profiles.
