CPU keeps whining

Considering (AFAIK) processors have no moving parts, i find it hard to believe that will be screeching, i'd check the other components first

it will be a coil somewhere on the motherboard thats doing it almost without doubt. - if it annoys you to much and you can find it a dab of HEAT PROOF/RESISTANT! (important) glue can stop it, or pushing a bit of paper/card in the right place.

if it doesnt bother you, dont worry.

I had this problem a while ago, turned out to be -

When PSU under laod from heavy cpu usage, made a squeal - highpitched whine.. at idle was fine...

Soon found out when i put a more power hungry CPU onto the system and it screeched and died...

New Huntkey 550w PSU sorted it all out for cheap (less than £50 from OCUK)

I can sometimes slightly hear 'RF noise' from the cpu while I'm playing games, but it's like it's coming from the pc rather than headphones. could it be that?

i can remember bout 6 months ago a friend of mine had a motherboard which squeeled when under full load with a cpu burn in test.... it turned out to be a couple of capacitors on the motherboard. he got it replaced through the motherboards manufacturers in the end as this shouldnt have been happening. but then again he was a serious overclocker!

Do you have an 8800 gfx card?

My 8800gtx squeals like mad.
Especially when using the ATI fluffy dice.

It's when the transistors are running perfectly parallel and causing the core to resonate.

It's quite common with 8800's.
Weird thing is it's only with the latest drivers.
The older drivers never did it.

Most likely situation, coil hum/squeal can be rather annoying!
