Hi guys

Can one of the knowledgable guys explain to me what I would likely expect to see if I were to add a 2nd 580 to my system.
I hear that CPU bottlenecking would occur but I just need to understand it at it's full explanation
Many thanks

The cards are sat there waiting for info from the cpu and the cards can only go as fast as that detail is fed them so if the cpu is not fast enough the cards are sat waiting for info.

You have a i7 so if you overclock the cpu id guess somewhere around 3.6 to 3.8 you would have no cpu bottle neck but it depends on the game and resolution and gfx settings.

Yea it depends on the game. In most game (that support Quad) the bottleneck probably won't be too noticable, but in games like Arm II which are hugely CPU hungry, you'd likely to get more frame rate out of outta the 580SLI if you CPU was faster than the speed you CPU current at now. And in games like WOW, graphic cards will always get bottlenecked by CPU big time...not because the CPU is slow or anything, but because the game don't use the extra cores well...same can be said for other older games that run in no more than two threads.

With my Q9550 @3.6 or 3.825gig I see no performance difference from my GTX470 SLI setup but when I OC the GPUs I still see a gain in fps in most cases so an i7 at atleast 3.6gig should be fine - my 470 SLI setup when overclocked isn't hugely slower than stock 580 SLI.
