4090 on 850w = BOOM
Hi I'm buying i7 2700k or 3770k i7 to replace my mb cpu and ram on pay day.

I play Tera 2560x1600 and my 7970 isn't being used much but my cpu is being used 100% and it's a 1st gen i930 at 4ghz.

I plan to go with all in one water cooling solution this time around and wish for the highest framerates in gaming only for cpu limited software like tera and the currently unoptimised guild wars 2 beta as these are the only things I've had issues with.

Which platform will be my best to work on?

Have you tested any other games apart from Tera? Could be badly coded just like every other MMO out there to be honest, would try something like BF3 or a benchmark because I doubt your GPU will be bottlenecking it an 930 at 1600p.

Other games are more gpu based like skyrim and would benefit from another 7970 but for Tera my framerate in city drops to 31-38 and I'd like to see more like 50 as I'm told this and wow/guild wars 2 all benefit from a faster processor.

I'm interested in your purchase here. I'm in the same boat, but not understanding why I wouldn't go 2011 instead. Cost wise in minimal.

It seems weird that your processor is at such a load.

Playing Tera at 1920x1080 on my I7 930 @4ghz and 6870 my cpu never seems to go past 60% load on the 0 core but gpu is at 70-100%

In terms of mmo's at least, Tera is pretty optimised.

Wow thanks for that it seems Tera is very badly optimised and will not use everything available to it even if it appears so. I've tried the tweaks recommended and have achieved my goal of increased but not perfect framerate. It seems a first gen core i7 at 4ghz is still nowhere near a bottleneck for anything in the world of gaming. My funds will be utilised on another 7970 most likely unless I simply fancy the upgrade out of impulse.

Also I doubt they'll bring out a game that does go beyond the capabilities of this overclock until processors come out around £250 that outperform it at stock :)

For gaming get an i5, i7's are a complete waste of money unless needing HT for other tasks.

I'll probably be selling my mb cpu and ram but unsure of exact 2nd hand value for it. The cpu was part of an overclocked bundle from here with the ram so it's always good for 4ghz I've run it in 3 boards at that speed.

Down clock your i7 and if your fps is lower then your bottlenecked, I wouldn't have thought that cpu would bottleneck at that high res.

EDIT: Is the game CPU bound like Guildwars 2?

I can't wait for Guildwars 2 to be optimised as my 5850 + i3 2120 was only getting 10-40 fps depending on how many players were in the zone, what did your 7970 get in Guildwars 2?
