CPU limiting potential GPU upgrade?

Buying a new house, moving to a new county and starting a new job have meant that for the last two years I've spent little time keep tracking of component developments. That said I'm now free to spend more time on the PC and get back into gaming.

The pertinent aspects of my PC are;

4670K @ 4Ghz
16GB Ram
Z87-GD65 GAMING

GTX1070

1080p/75hz

I'm looking to purchase a 1440p/100hz monitor in the near future and I already know my current specs could be with improving.

As a result I was tempted to splash the cash for a 2070 Super but I'm concerned the CPU will have a significantly detrimental effect.

I have about £1K to spend and as much as I'd like a new CPU/MB/Ram + GPU + 1440p monitor the maths just don't work out.

Do I?

A, Stick with the status quo and save some more cash

B, Get the new GPU & monitor and make the best of it until I can upgrade the CPU/MB/Ram next year

Anyone else running a high end GPU on an ageing CPU?

Grab a new panel first, 1070 shouldn't be too bad at 1440p. Grab the GPU later if you feel you want/need to, or at the same time.

Upgrade the CPU etc when budget allows/you feel you need to. Shouldn't really hold you back much unless it's a cpu intensive title.

I'm running a 3770k and 2x980ti's and i can tell you that its bottle necked to hell. i believe 2x980ti's is equivalent to a 2070S or there abouts anyway.

I don't see above 50% usage so a cpu, board and ram upgrade is a must!

This is my concern. I don't want to spend £500 on a new GPU if I'm only achieving part of it's potential.

Buy monitor and a cpu cooler and overclock the cpu?

CPU is already overclocked mate. Got a H100i and can't really push it much further.
