Have a P.C of a friends here for 'fixing' and it looks terminal. It starts up and all the lights, fans etc start, so I assume PSU is ok. There is no output to the monitor at all, and no error beeps. It had onboard graphics, so I shoved a spare AGP card in it, no difference. I also tried swapping the memory, again no difference. I assume if it was a HDD problem I'd get an error on screen to say it had a problem with the device, but as I have no VDU output at all I guess that either the Mobo or CPU has died?

Just wanted to double check - does my synopsis sound fair, anything else I can check before ordering new parts? Cheers.

wow , loads are having this problem. I ve got it to.

So far ive swapped mobo (nothing) swapped memory (nothing) swapped graphics (nothing)

Im thinking its PSU so i have a new one coming tomorrow. The fans may spin up even if the psu has gone (or so im told)

Knowing me tho, it will be the last thing i try (cpu)

If i was you, id wait for tomorrow for me to test my new PSU lol...if it dont work then its a CPU problem :D

Cheers for that - so on your one everything spins up but no output to the screen? If that's the case I 'll wait a day and see how you get on with your new PSU. Can you do me a favour please and post how you get on once you give it a spin?

Turned it on few days ago, fans spin up full whack, then they would NORMALLY spin down and monitor turn on and it starts to POST. But now, the fans stay at full whack, nothing comes on the screen, and nothing happens!

Ive had to buy new motherboars, i get the same, fans spin up and nada! Ive borrowed memory and graphics cards, fans spin up and nada!.

Theres two things left, PSU or CPU. I really think its the PSU, ill try it tomorrow and ill promise ill post here to let you know.

So you will have a better idea how to fix yours, instead of spending money going through the trial and error process.

Good man, thanks for that, it's appreciated. I'll hold fire and see how you get on, so good luck, hope the PSU does the trick for you.

May i ask what PSU and CPU you have on the dead PC?

I have a Seasonic S12 430W PSU and an AMD 3200+ Venice s939 CPU.

Wow it seems to be a common problem this ive got exactly the same problem.
Pc Spec is on my Sig im on my second Power Supply so its not that i thought it was my motherboard but evga seem to think its my power supply or my Processor. Looking more and more like my CPU /sigh :(

New PSU arrived this morning, fitted it all in...

Turned on, fans spin up and NOTHING.

The only thing i haven't tried it a new CPU..... :(

Least its an excuse to go dual core i suppose.

Hello,

I had the same problem and my first thought was it must be the graphics card the lights were on but nobody at home. If you boot without the keyboard and mouse even if you dont see any output on the monitor if your CPU and motherboard is fine it will beep like mad to tell you they are disconnected.

Otherwise it seems more likey your CPU is dead. Often you can find both the CPU and Motherboard fail at the same time quite common when overheating is the problem.

I think that is what happened in my case too much dust got sucked under the CPU fan into the heatsink. It was no longer cooling the CPU enough which overheated blowing the CPU and motherboard.

I had this, for some reason my cpu blew and I tried changing pretty much everything to no avail.. then I bought a cheap AM2 3500+ (non X2) to try in its place and hey presto, we have lift-off!

My symptoms were exactly the same as yours, thought it was the mobo or video card but different ones made no difference..

Nope, didn't do anything other than spin up the fans.. no screen display, no beeps, no hard drives spinning up. There was power going to the inbuilt ethernet port as the light was on.

Definately concerning seeing as there are so many posts and threads about this issue popping up left right and centre!

Got to be something in common with the lot of ya to have this happen I reckon

This laptop aint good enough for gaming.

Well My enermax Power supply is supposed to stop that happening, do u think there would be something i can do because i was sold something that didnt do what it said on the box and then they had the cheek to send me a replacement with a dodgy power switch?
