Hi chaps,

My Q6600 has started giving random crashes, even after lowering the clocks. It's probably about time for an upgrade anyway so it's no great loss.

I've already got an SSD, AMD 7850, 650W power supply, etc.

I'll be using it for Visual Studio 2012/13, occasionally running stuff in VM's, and occasional Gaming @ 1920 x 1200.

I don't want to spend much so I'm thinking an over-clocked 8320 may fit the bill but not sure on what Mobo or Ram to go for.

Any ideas appreciated!

It's probably worth knowing what PSU you have, as if it's a naff one it could be that causing the problems meaning a new system is going to behave exactly the same.

Also the VM's you run, are they memory intensive or not?

The power supply is smaller than I thought. it's a Corsair Modular HX 520W. Probably 5-ish years old?

The VM's would be Windows 8 or Linux, only one spun up at a time. So probably need a rough max of 4GB for the VM's.

I always suspected the current motherboard caused instability. It's a p35c-ds3r and probably about 7 years old now!
