So, my motherboard has finally given up and now will not stay on for any longer than a few minutes.

My budget for a new processor, mobo, and ram is £500 and after having a little look online my options are a I5 9600k or AMD 2700x.

The rest of my pc is as follows. 1080p monitor @ 60fps, Saphhire Nitro 390 8gb, 2 x 250gb ssds, 750w Corsair builders modular psu with a 240 sip rad for the cpu.

I mainly use my pc for gaming and web browsing and the odd video editing

Edit.... just had a thought of a i7 8700 (nonk) as this is not much more than a 9600k

8700 as it boosts to 4.6ghz single core and 4.3ghz all cores if your doing video editing. Will still be faster then ryzen at gaming 1080p/ 1440p though you'd need a monitor that's 144hz to see the benefits .

Pair a 8700 with Gigabytes entry z390 UD Baird for £120. Don't buy B360 board as useless and z370 isn't much better

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £550.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Thanks for the reply, What about this?

Just noticed this is a 8 core 8 thread processor and the 8700k is a 6 core 12 thread with the 9900k being 8 cores and 16 threads so seems it's down to the 9700k or the 8700k

Could just go AMD, get a decent board with a view to 3 series which are due shortly. This is exactly what I did when my MB died (and then I REALLY killed it).

Cheers everyone.

What are people's thoughts on the 9700k and 8700k? The 9700k is a 8c 8t processor and the 8700k is a 6c and 12t processor. Which would be better for gaming?

more cores then threads. HT adds normally 15% MAX performance boost were as more physical cores is always better . Cases like VM though can be handle or Software that can access threads better - but these are normally workstation bound stuff .

If not just go for non K 8700 with 4.3ghz all core boost :D if you can find it cheap
