Trying to build my mum a new PC which is decent enough that I can use it when I occasionally go home from uni. Basically looking at this so far:

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2
Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM
Gigabyte SUPERB 460w PSU
Galaxy 7900GT (already own)
Got a case & optical drive sorted...

Now all i need is a CPU & Mobo. What's the best I can get to go with the above kit for around the £100 mark? Preferably something with some sort of upgrade potential. I was originally thinking AM2 stuff but if im honest I haven't the foggiest how the similarly priced intels stack up to them these days. Input much appreciated :)

Intel TBH...

Intel E2160 CPU (£45)
Either OcUK IP35 Mobo (£52) or any of the P31 chipset mobos.

Personally, Id go for the IP35, then overclock the E2160. Should do 2.8Ghz ish under stock cooling, maybe 3Ghz

your gonna be abit pushed with that budget.. the previous suggestion is the ideal choice considering price. A sensible overclock on the E2160 can easily be achieved :) Your mum wont even need an overclock probably but say if your playing games just do simple 20% OC in bios.

:)
