Hi,

Im building a new PC, but am on a budget. I will mainly be using it for 3D related work and also gaming.

Is there much difference between an i5 and i7 in performance? I am considering an i5 4670k as its price/performance sounds good. If you have any other suggestions around the price range of the 4670k then it would be appreciated. I have around £70-£100 to spend on the motherboard as well. The CPU/MOBO bundle is what I am having trouble deciding on.

Any recommendations would great.

Thanks.

For 3D related work I would go with the i7 4790k, but if you are on a budget then just go for the i5 4690k as they are the updated vesion of the 4670k. What case do you have: ATX, mATX?

Hi,

Thanks for the links. The extra £100 for the i7 I think may just be over my limit, as I still have all the other parts to get. As much as I would love it I think I may have to go with an i5. The 4690k might be ideal.

The case on my current PC is the old Dell XPS 420. I have always liked that case, but might get a new case as well.

Have a look at the Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 cpu as an alternative to the i5. It has Hyperthreading which will be useful for Rendering, but it is around the same price as an i5 4690K.

The only downsides are that you can't overclock the Xeon (As far as I am aware) and it doesn't have any integrated graphics (Not a huge issue, but still handy to have).

It uses Socket 1150 motherboards.

Thanks, will definitley look into that. I have no plans to overclock and no integrated graphics doesnt bother me.
