So my i5 2500k is getting a bit old now versus new tech so am wondering where to go next. First thought was skylake i7 but after a bit of forum reading am getting put off slightly. Gonna need a new chip and mobo with price no issue but not just gonna throw money away so I want good value for money, obviously want to overclock and a minimum of 8 sata ports. No more than 2 gpus will be used, but will be a gaming rig with VR thrown in as well.

Need anymore information just ask.

So what cpu and mobo would you all recommend with reasons for (or against others).

Will do further research on the recommendations after but as not needed an upgrade for a while have not been keeping up to date on things so your input will help put me on the right trail.

Thanks in advance.

Im not sure you may need to update your cpu+board etc.

The 2500K is still ok. They did 4.5Ghz atleast on even the worst boards.

What Case,PSU,Drives etc do you have.

Bitfenix ghost, gold 650, ssds and hdds, 290x,

The i5 2500k is a belter of a processor, am still running one and I have not seen or been impressed by anything on offer at the moment.

Mine is overclocked to 4.5ghz it can do 4.8 but 4.5 is enough and I have yet to find anything that taxes it.

What do you use your PC for ?

gaming and soon vr so I definitely need a new gpu at least. so was thinking maybe a new system but I can hold off till either something pops or technology gets better.

Thanks for your replies.

Different question now.

should I get a 980ti or crossfire my 290x or stick with my 290x and wait for next gen VR games (when my GPU will need upgrading) to see whats on the market?
