Hello, I was thinking of upgrading my pc, at the mo I have http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-029-OE&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1678 but mine came with Kingston hyperX ram, anyway I need help deciding on what to go for, I'll spend up too about £170 for the mobo, about £125'ish for the ram, and up £160 for the cpu, if I manage too sell my old pc, and my current setup I might go alittle more, but anyway, thanks in advance for the help

forgot to say, I use my pc for all sorts, watching movies, music, multi-tasking and a lot of gaming, like Crysis, WoW, RTS's, COD, and them kinda games

You could just stick a Q6600 in it.

Quad core and plenty of cache.

I know of two people selling on these forums.

Should leave 200+ for a graphics upgrade.

I'm not fussy hehe, I use to have AMD, so I'm not biased towords intel, I just want the best I can get for my budget

Well the Intel bundle is faster but the AMD bundle is a bit cheaper. Personally I would go for the Intel one. As much as i want AMD to succeed and compete with Intel they cant match them just yet.

but it as Hypertreading which lets it act like a quad core, or is that basicly just a marketing gimmick?

The I3 is slower as stulid says it is still pretty fast though. It just depends on how much you want to spend really, best to look at some reviews on the CPUs, Motherboards before you make a decision

EDIT: HT is beneficial is certain scenarios but generally the AMD 965 and I5 750 are significantly faster.

Only able to use that when the CPU has free process time, if its busy then its screwed.

The i5 750 is a true quad.

The PHENOM II X4 are too.

The i5 6** are dual cores.

ok will do that, I just remmbered the tread on here saying how good they where for the money, and with me saving like £100 I could also buy a cheap'ish SSD for Win7, or another 1-2 1TB HDDs

ahh, thats very helpfull, I allways thought they could do it anytime, so guess its gonna be a proper quad core, and then after awhile a new SSD and HDD

Its worth remembering that future upgrade potential it in favor of the AMD as there are native six core AM3 CPUs being released next month which are likly to be between £200 to £300.

I would wait until next month and grab one of these, cost wise the motherboard budget you have gets you a lot in AMD so the spare cash can go towards the CPU.

oh, I'll deffo be waiting till they come out now, and yeah I noticed that with the mobos, I realy like the Asus Rampage II Extreme, and the top of the line gig looks good too, have you got any links too the new 6-cores?

EDIT: just found them on the web, they look good, pricing is supposed to be 200usd for the 2.8ghz, and 300usd for the 3.2ghz, which is realy cheap, but there will be extra tax and stuff, so £200-300 sounds about right
