Hi all,

Just wondered if someone could reccommend me a good CPU/mobo/closed loop watercooler upgrade for my rig?

Current specs are:

2500k
z68 Extreme 4
Big air cooler.

Want a new cooler so I can overclock and also want to reuse my current mobo/cpu for my server.

Budget: £500 (preferably less as i would ideally like to use that for a second SSD)

Cheers

Ali

What case do you have and also what RAM do you have?

Actually if you have very tall RAM and a case that can take a 240mm rad in the roof?

YOUR BASKET

Thanks for that.

I have the xigamatek Elysium so plenty of room for a rad. and currently have low profile RAM.

I have a Crucial m4 128gb atm, would I be able to RAID those two or would I be better off getting a second m4?

Thanks

You will want an identical SSD, you can RAID different drives, but I'm sure its best to keep it simple and have matching gear.

A 3570k is a pointless upgrade over your 2500k. They are simply not worth the money now either. Wait for Haswell and go with the new socket in Q2.

Would have to agree, waste of money. I have no intention of buying an IB chip and will most likely not bother with Haswell either. Just don`t see any real benefits.
If you have the "itch", then by all means upgrade your cooler and get a nice 256gb ssd. What Gpu do you currently have.

Hmm. have a 7950 currently. Seems to cope fine with everything except crysis 3

Whats going on here? Why recommend a Z77 board and a 3570K as an upgrade over a Z68 board and a 2500K? There will be litterally no difference, and if the 3570K won't overclock as well as the 2500K did, it could even be a downgrade?

That's what is going on, OP isn't really "upgrading" as old hardware will be re-used

Oh. This is why skim reading is bad :p

Why not just get a new CPU cooler and a new motherboard + cpu for the server? I cant imagine that a server would need anything like a 2500K surely?

Would save some pennies.
