My current setup:

AMD Phenom II X4 965
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO
Sapphire 280X Vapor-X
6GB RAM

I've got down to two options...

i7 4970k & Asus Maximus VII Ranger
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-013-AS

or i5 4670k with the same mobo.

With the bundle offer there's £60 difference so I'm thinking it would be worth it to get i7. Especially because I use 3ds max/maya etc.

So is the extra £60 worth it? Or any other options to look at?

massive upgrade over what your running

What motherboard do you have right now and what are you looking to spend

ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO

I'll just spend whatever can be justified to be honest. I guess my limit would be £365 based on the original bundle I posted. I don't think I'd need to spend any more than that.

The reason I was more inclined to go with i7 is because of the benefits you gain through rendering in 3ds max/maya as this is painfully slow on my pc as you can imagine.

I quite like the networking and audio options that come on both the Asus Maximus VII Ranger and Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 which seem to be missing from ASUS Z97-K although I'm not sure these make up for the price difference

The Maximus boards are fantastic, i am not a fan of gigabyte boards. they are good i just dont like them myself.

will you be gaming on the system and dose your budget include the cost of a new gfx card

I'm also a big fan of ASUS boards over other brands.

Yes, I will be gaming but I'm not looking to upgrade my gfx card anytime soon.

It probably would do but playing games on highest settings is something that doesn't bother me. I still only really play UT2004/CoD4 anyway.

The reason for i7 over i5 is rendering.

at the prices an i7 can be had it i dont see any reason to not get one if its right for you and it look like you know what you need so go for it. i would go with the asus board
