My friend is looking for a new processor and motherboard for around £500

He mainly plays games and wants many features from the motherboard.

He also has lost of usb devices so would require at least 10 usb sockets.

He doesn't have a sound card so would want a decent integrated card.

Intel would be preferable but if AMD would be better then he doesn't mind.

Thanks

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD580KWOHJBOX) £99.95
1 x MSI A85XA-G65 AMD A85X Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £85.99
1 x GeIL EVO Corsa 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C10 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (GOC38GB2133C10ADC) £59.99
Total : £256.73 (includes shipping : £9.00).

The integrated graphics in the Trinity is the best on the market. Google it for examples. You can run the like of BF3 on high & paired with the 2133 RAM, it'll run like a beauty.

He already has RAM and a HD6950 so wouldn't need the integrated graphics.
His current processor is holding him back on games. Everything else is fine.

Not sure, he's at work now but it will fit a custom heat sink. think his is 180/190mm wide case.
Forgot about the custom heat sink business. Also he doesn't want water cooling. He doesn't trust it.

Would it be better waiting for the new generation of chips or go i5/i7 now?

Well that case doesn't sound wide enough. That heatsink is 163mm high and a standard case that would fit it needs to be around 200mm-210mm

These two are smaller.

I think i'd go for the macho (only 150mm tall too. )

Thanks for all the replies.
That cooler looks like it may do the job.
I will get him to look at the thread. He will probably choose a different motherboard but i5-3570k will probably be on his list with a substantial heat sink.

The D14, is one of the best sir cooler on the market. I have one and it's amazing. Got my 2500k to 4.7 under 65C.. :)

The Z77X range is perfect.
