Use pc for mainly gaming. Would like to switch from my current amd 1090t x 6 and asus crosshair iv formula.

Have an msi r9 290 gpu

£400 budget, intel would be good.

Use pc for bf4 gaming.

Thanks

Cheapest and easiest upgrade for you is a 8320 with an overclock.

Then buy another R9 290.

Honestly, it's not really worth changing to Intel with a decent board like you have.

Ed. TBH I would stick my neck out and say that even the CPU you have now is perfect for BF3/4. If you want more oomph and scalability for the future then go 8320. If not? just whack in a second 290, run a few benchmarks then decide if you need a new CPU.

The 8320 will clock far higher in mhz than what you have now, and the two extra cores will be handy going into the future.

The only real upgrade IMO past the 8320 is the 5820k, which has very expensive ram. The 4790k IMO isn't worth considering due to the closeness in price with the 5820k and the 4690k I5 will pretty much offer you nothing over the 8320.

Remember. Games mostly don't care about the CPU. I say mostly because there are the odd exception to that rule. However, all games want a good GPU subsystem, and Mantle and DX12 are both gunning to take out the CPU from the equation any way.

If you're really itchy on the CPU then 8320 + second 290 is the way to go. If not? wait until DDR4 prices settle, then get a 5820k.

All just my opinion of course.

To add - you really don't need any ram either.

Sorry I'm sounding so boring, but honestly the cheap option with a second GPU is by far and away the best solution for you.

according to the asus website, the board only takes bullbozer, but i guess if it takes bulldozer, then it will take piledriver... might have to update the bios first mind
