Hi, so i ve just purchased an old motherborad GA-z68P-DS3 with a i5-3570k second hand but full working order The previous owner said he has used it, When i ve plugged it all in and ready to go the computer turns on for about 2-5 seconds and then turns off. the CPU fan starts spinning but no screen displaying, Video Included- Currently no ram inserted for testing reason but still same issue, Thermal paste has been tested, I have been told previously that the Z68 motherboards need a BIOS update to work, but the previous owner said it was in all working order, any line of help would be greatly appreciated https://vimeo.com/user113562882/review/410717921/5bf3178a3e

Had you installed the CPU yourself and the pins look okay and not bent? and also the link provided does not work.

Ye all the pins are intact and ye i installed it bymyself but not first time doing it, bascially the video is just PC turning on heatsink fan spinning but then shutting off after couple of seconds, ive done abit of research and the heat sink says its good for CPU-s with a speed of 3.04ghz whereas the 3570k is a 3.4ghz, is this a possibility of a failed boot, also is is possible for the motherboard to reset its bios update after it has been taken out? everywhere im reading im seeing a compatibility Issue saying that the bios does need a update
- but im unsure whether the previous owner has updated it

How long did you leave it to boot? The reason I ask is that older Intel boards often do a double boot and can seem dead before they boot back up, especially after they detect a configuration change. You'd need the RAM installed though.

Was the mobo and CPU sold as a pull (i.e. both together)? As far as I know, Z68 boards did need updates to run Ivy CPUs, so if it's been run with a Sandy then it might be too old. You can sometimes get the BIOS version from the box, the I/O ports or on the main PCI-E slot (assuming it wasn't updated).

You have both the big 20/24 and small 4 pin power cables installed, right?

Thank you for this reply I will try all these tomorrow and follow up with feedback

I would do clear the bios by taking the battery out and disconnecting it from the mains for 30 mins.

on top of this make sure you didn’t tighten up the cooler too much, did you go from corner to opposite corner or round in a circle when tightening up the cpu cooler? Too much tightening can bend the board or cpu and cause issues.

Might be worth trying the ram in different slots and see if that makes any difference. If you can’t get it to boot I would return it depending on where you got it from etc
