CPU/Motherboard/memory upgrade? Budget 700 pounds

Hi all,

Current system is i7-4790K at 4ghz, asus z97 pro mb, 16GB ram (DDR3 I think), & an RTX2080 graphics card. PSU is a corsair 850w unit.

System copes with all games I play, so an upgrade is not really needed ... but work has given me a gift card.

Is there a motherboard/CPU/memory combo for at most 700 quid that would give me a good improvement in gaming?

My 2 cents would be to move to the AM5 platform, the base CPU being the 6C/12T 7600X around £250, I think you should have the budget for that, it'll be way faster than what you have now plus you can get some money back after selling your existing CPU/mobo/RAM.
AM5 mobo around £250
DDR5 16GB RAM £100 or £200 for 32GB
Consider an nvme C drive for £100 as well to make sure the system flies.

If your system is coping with what you want to do then AM5 system is not really worth it right now. It will be future proof but at a cost. I am doing mine today but only because I got free DDR5 RAM for testing and review.

I am going with ASRock X670E The cheapest AM5 board with PCIe5 and not mini ATX
Ryzen 7700x + MSI MAG P360 AIO
KLEVV XR5 RGB 32GB RAM

There is a lot more life left for AM4 system with DDR4 and for gaming I would spend the money on better graphics card, monitor and peripherals but that is IMO

Both would need a cooler, but not sure what fits in your case, or if yours is re-usable.
