CPU/Motherboard Question

Hi, I recently upgraded to a FX 8350 on a Sabrtetooth 990fx, and I have a few queries about settings. Everything is at stock atm. I really don't know much about this kind of thing, so bare with me:)

1. I have enabled Cool n quiet in the bios, but not touched anything else. I was happy with idle temps of around 30, and I have been listening to music/watching movies no problems. However, I just started Steam downloading something, and temps shot up to about 50. That seems high for basically not doing much at all?...any settings I need to tweak?

2. I notice that with CnQ enabled, the Vcore voltage sits at about 0.8, which gives me low temps some of the time, but it randomly increases to about 1.392, sometimes higher, and my temps will shoot up. It doesn't happen when I am particularly doing anything. Again, is this normal?...setting to change?

3. Basically what I am after is a system that will remain cool and quiet most of the time(it will mainly be used to browse, watch videos etc), but increase when I really need it(I do a lot of gaming etc). What are the main things I need to do?

Cheers

PS. Download has now finished, and back down to mid 30s. Seems a bit odd that downloading would increase it that much?

What programme are you using to measure your temps?

Have you stress tested it with say cinebench to see what temps your CPU rises to under 100% load? If not, try it and report back the temps.

Also what fans are you running on your Antec Kuhler? Is it push/pull? What rpm?

I'll sort out some details tomorrow. Not at my pc til the evening though. The kuhler is set up with two akasa apaches in push/pull, at 100% all of the time(they are silent!) . The same set up I used with my previous CPU, which gave great results.
No way will that cope with an FX 8. I had a Corsair H60, was absolutely useless and could barely keep temps in check at stock speeds.

To be perfectly honest, I am not totally confident in my installation, as I no longer have the amd bracket for the kuhler, so I kind of bodged it with a generic backplate, which fits but isn't totally stable.

I am thinking about a new cooler tbh. I ordered one of the new Antic Kuhlers the other day, but canceled it after changing my mind!

Get an H100.

Akasa apaches aren't particularly high static pressure, so not ideally suited to drawing air through your radiator. Perhaps your new system just puts more demand on the cooling.
I use an apache for the exhaust on the other side of the rad but found I needed something more powerful on the intake, I would try something like a Corsair SP. The apaches are pretty silent but they don't move the most air.

I always knew the Apaches were not suited to it, I was just had one as a case fan, and was really impressed with the total silence of it, so got another one when I got the Kuhler. It all performed admirably with my old cpu/mobo(which I never oc'd btw), in fact, my temps were particularly low.

I just ran prime blend for less than 5 minutes and it hit 72c. Heatsink not working properly?....even if it isn't quite up to scratch, that is not right! btw, temps did not instantly decrease when I closed Prime, as I would expect)

I think I will stick my Freezer 7 Pro on for the time being. It has been a good old servant in it's time!

Just to update, I bought the kuhler 950 in the end.

I fitted it earlier today and after a struggle(I don't know if all closed-loops are fiddly as this!), I got it all up and running OK. I ran prime95 blend for about 4 hours, and it settled at 53c, which is fine by me. Sound OK?

Btw, I could not boot my pc with cool n quiet enabled. Is this normal does anybody me know? I was getting a couple fan error until I turned it off.

Just a quick question. I think everything is ok, but I occasionally get the odd message pop up that doesn't make sense to me. Does everything look ok here?

When this was taken, I was just browsing/listening to music, nothing major. I had a program pop-up(I believe it is Asus Thermal Radar) telling me that a) The motherboard temp is too high, and b) the cpu fan is too slow!

Also, I ran Cinebench, but can't remember the score, I'll have to do it again at some point. Temps were fine though, about 44c
