Happy New Year all!

I want to treat myself to my long overdue upgrade. I have been holding out for too long.

Current specs:
Phenom II x4 945 @ 3.7
Asus M4A79XTD Evo
XFX 650
Samsung 250gb SSD
HIS 7950 3GB (clocked @ 1050 and 1400)

I game at 1080p and I'm not looking at crossfiring (although it's always handy to have a board that can do it just in case)

Set-ups I'm looking at:

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £107.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £79.99
Total : £197.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £109.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £107.99
Total : £227.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £169.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £107.99
Total : £287.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

My queries are:

1. With the 97 board, what is a rough estimate for an overclock? Is 4.7/4.8 realistic? I run a custom watercooling loop (XSPC EX120 rad)

2. As the AM3+ is end of life, what would I achieve by going with the M5A99X board? Does it allow better overclocks?

3. How much of a difference roughly between a 4.8ghz fx and the i5 clocked at 4.4ish? If it's only around 5-10 frames in games then I don't think the extra £100 is worth it. I've checked these forums, googled etc etc, but there's always conflicting benchmarks. Just need a rough estimate.

4. I currently have 8gb 1333 ram overclocked to 1600. Will this suffice or cause any sort of bottleneck?
I've read that ram speed has a negligible effect on frames?

I'm currently heavily leaning towards the first option as I'm a miserly scotsman :)

If you're on a tough budget then the first option will be your best, not sure about getting that chip to 4.8ghz on your cooling though, and not 100% how the board will cope with such high volts.

if you're not on a tough budget, Intel would be the wiser choice to make, very decent chips, overclock very well & perform better than what AMD have to offer.
