CPU Multiplier Resets Itself =S

Relevant System Info -

Mobo - MSI Z68A-GD65-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Cooler - Gelid Tranquillo
CPU - Core I5 2500k @3.3GhZ
PSU - Antec TruePower New Modular 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

Ok so I am pretty new to overclocking, basically, I disabled EIST which worked then reset, booted BIOS and it was still disabled, I then set CPU core to 1.16V as a test saved and rebooted, and tried changing the multiplier from 33 to 36, I then saved settings and rebooted, however when the PC boots up again I go into the BIOS, and the multiplier is still set at 33, quite puzzled by this problem. However I then got into Windows and ran CPU-Z which confirmed the PC was running at 3.3Ghz at load and at the voltage I set it too constalty (with slight fluctuations)

On a slight side (but related) note, when the PC was not at load it was running at 1.5Ghz, should this still happen with EIST disabled? I thought with EIST the CPU always ran at max speed =S

Nah its nothing that simple unfortunately, I dont know if there are any settings other than what I have mentioend above that I need to change for the multiplier to be changed/changeable? Dont actually type 36 in my BIOS I select it from a drop menu and then click save settings and restart it even says your new frequency will be 3600GHz in BIOS before restart so =/

Note - I havent changed any voltages other than CPU core voltage
 




THe pictures of my BIOS as seen on my PC at default settings, could anyone take me through exacetly what I should do in them for just a 3.6Ghz OC (sorry for the poor quality had to use my phone)

The greyed out bits that u cant see cos of the crappy picture are just the current voltages of the auto above them
 
THanks for the reply mate, I do not really know what the +12V means at all to be honest. Also, would this really make changing the multiplier just reset itself?

Also on turning off turbo, when I disable EIST turbo is also disabled automatically, and even if it isnt I had already tried it with just turbo disabled and a 36 multiplier.

Anyway here is my HWM and Speedfan

Obviously I can guess u are talkign about the +12V on these pics as speedfan is 10.5V and HW 8V

Also if Vcore is autod and you OC wont it overvolt the PC?

Well it looks like it is puzzling to a lot of you guys aswell, but if I change nothing from the settings from my phone pics earlier except multi to 36 and Turbo off I then click save and reset, go into the BIOS after reset and it is gone, maybe this should go in the hardware section and not the overclocking I dont know.

Could realtemp showing speed as 0.00 as seen below be related in anyway?



I am no retard with PCs but no expert either, and this has me completely baffled, any help would be much appreciated.
 
Hey mate thanks a lot for the information, I tried all of them except the ratio thing because I didnt really get it with no sucess, the core ration that I set to 36 had gone back to 33 still, I took a picture of all the features on my CPU as seen in the BIOS CPU Features section



Overspeed is enabled because I just restored all defaults after trying these

Ok here is more info can sum1 please suggest anything to me?

I decided to hit OC Genie (which should set everything how it needs to be for an OC), and in OC genie mode on my MSI BIOS it said 4.2Ghz I was like ok, saved and rebooted, let windows boot up, and CPU-Z says it is still 3.3Ghz but at 1.3V so I was like ok, and rebooted, went into BIOS, it says it is in OC genie mode, but even the multiplier in OC genie mode has gone down to 3.3Ghz lol

Does anyone have any idea, I am really puzzled. Doesnt seem to be a lot of knoledge here on this topic =/
 
Random blast at it; have you changed the Windows power settings from Balanced to High Performance? As it could be Window's own power saving settings kicking in.

EDIT: Just make sure you're running something like Prime to ensure it will run at top speeds when on load.

THanks for trying mate, but I changed it from balanced to High performance with the same result =/ DIdnt really see as that could be it as the multiplier resets beore I even get into Windows

Thanks a lot mate, I used the OC genie button and it has booted, at 4,2Ghz and a slightly high (I think) 1.336Vwith temps idling around 42 degrees C snf 62 degrees after like 5 minutes of prime95 looks like it will reach the mid 70s if I left prime95 going which I think could damage my CPU. However my question is, why would this work with OC genie button but not with OC genie mode in BIOS as you know in MSI BIOS there is an Eco Mode, a Standard mode and a OC Genie mode, before trying the OC genie button I tried OC genie mode just by going to OC genie mode in the BIOS and this was giving the result of resetting my multiplier (it chose the same 4.2Ghz and voltage as the OC genie button, but reset my multiplier on save and restart).

But I can completely confirm that in the BIOS if I leave everything on default but disable turbo boost and put the multiplier up to 36 it resets back to 33, however if the OC to 4.2Ghz with OC genie works it cant be system stability (I think/hope =/).

I dno I am puzzled, but I am going to boot with OC genie button off now as I dont like that CPU voltage (it wasnt already on)

I doubt it is this, but do you know if this is an issue fixed in the 23.1 version of the BIOS? As I have not flashed mine (because I am freaking worried to) and still have 23.0.

Not sure what it might be, bad BIOS to CPU communication? Fault in the mobo, RAM timings, maybe even just some settings I am overlooking, who knows.
