CPU not fitting on MOBO?

I have this MOBO:

And this CPU:

It's just not fitting in, the notches don't line up (tried both ways) and it just doesn't seem to fit at all. There are also exposed pins down one side (it doesn't cover all the mobo pins) These are the best photos I could get:

I phoned OC tech support up, and they confirmed they should fit. What am I doing wrong? I've read the manual, and unhinged the clips etc, lifted the plate. Just doesn't fit!

Gave them my order number which had both components in it, they said they are compatible

Yes I know I'm an idiot lol, RAM was off Amazon, searched DDR4 but fuzzy search gave me DD3 and I didn't pay enough attention.

It's all too late, made a proper muddle of all this so DDR4 is on it's way, returning the CPU and ordering a Haswell E, this one:

Before I buy, can someone just for my peace of mind tell me it's going to fit please!

Then I think we're good to go. I know I look like an idiot, just having one of those weeks.

Graphics card reusing old Radeon 6800, not great I know but fine for intended use and will upgrade later if needed. PC is being used for programming so nice and fast with SSD + lots of memory is most important.
