CPU or cooler dead?

Swapped my gear over to a new case yesterday, all was well until I notice my H110i GTX spinning up during games which is something it never used to do. I thought it was the fan configuration and it was starved of air. So I've tired every possible configuration to get the temps down with no effect. I've even sat the cooler outside of the case and ran with no better effect.

Normally I run my CPU (5930k) which is 3 months old @ 1.35v and 4.5ghz, I had to drop down to 4.4 and 1.3v last month due to a small temp increase, just time of year I thought.

I have now returned my CPU to 3.5ghz and 1.25v and still high temps, Idle @ 70c.

I have reseated the cooler 3 times with no effect. If I leave it running idle and fans and pump of full it does in time come down to 40c idle (still high).

So whats had it, could it be the new CPU throwing up massive temps or something within the H110i GTX. When running Corsair fans and pump speed show increasing speed to running faster modes. Normally at 4.5 my max temps in prime95 got to 88c, 3 hours of gaming 65c.

I'd say it could quite possibly be a dead pump? Do you have a cheap air cooler laying around you could try? One other thing I noticed is you haven't mentioned if you have redone the TIM?

I don't no, stuck me ear right next to it and I can hear a "scuttling" noise on boot-up from the pump, and I can hear the rush of changing water speed when changing pump modes.

One warm pipe one cold pipe

Rebooting with overclock applied see temps shoot straight back up, H110i temp of 51c and core 65c idle.

Thinking its the CPU, what could cause this sort of heat even when stock.

Might just be trapped air in the pump, try tilting the cooler so the pump is at the lowest point and tap on it a bit to try dislodge any air.

Could be, with cooler attached (not sure I should be doing this) tapping and shacking has dropped the pump temp over 10c and 30c core Idle. But still not up to its normal self though when stressing.

Keeps climbing when stressing, whack it with my hand drops from 90c down to 78c within 2 seconds. Must be air trapped, how do I get it out? Temps slowly climb back up again.

You don't get it out as there should always be a little bit in there. It should be as simple as elevating the rad above the pump to get what little air in there to sit in one of the rad end tanks.

If the loop has lost coolant over time which is possible then there may be too much now or a weak pump of course. Already mentioned but a basic air cooler such as an CM 212 EVO is a quick way to eliminate the CPU as a cause.

Just another tip. The loop should stabilise at a constant temp over the whole loop over time so when you mentioned the hot and cold pipe if that doesn't change it points to a flow issue.

Yeah it's no good I have to keep tapped it with the palm of my hand outside the case, holding it above the CPU has no effect. When testing a tap every 5 mins is in order to shave off 15c

Think I'll RMA it as I only bought it last November. Strange fault cause it works fine after being tapped for a while
