CPU or GPU upgrade first?

Current system:
R5-1600 (OC to 4Ghz)
2x8Gb 2400Mhz (OC to 2933Mhz)
RX580 8Gb Sapphire Nitro+
ASUS Strix B350-F Gaming.
650w PSU
3xSSD + 2 backup HDDs
1440p 144Hz 32" HANNSPREE Monitor, bought from
OVERCLOCKERS UK

Current games played: (Escape From Tarkov - AC Odyssey - Dark Souls 3 - Witcher 3 - APEX Legends - BFV - PUBG - Dying Light - Total War: Warhammer 2 - Total War: 3 Kingdoms).

Games I want to play with the upgrade: (Cyberpunk 2077 - Red Dead Redemption 2) along with current titles played, but I really want to try to hit the 1440p @144Hz sweetspot, as currently I have to compromise depending with my setup (either playing 1080p @144Hz {example, APEX Legends}, or 1440p @ 120Hz, but Medium settings {example: BFV}.

Questions:
- Should I go for the Ryzen R5 3600X or the Radeon 5700 first?
-0 And which will I see the biggest performance uplift, by upgrading my CPU or GPU?
(This will be for the first 3-6 months, before I can justify the upgrade of my 2nd choice).

My end goal is to end up with an R5 3600X and Radeon 5700, eventually upgrading to a 500 series motherboard but as long as AMD keeps their promise about B350 boards being compatible with ZEN 2, I will hold them to this promise.

Thanks.

Personally, I’d be tempted to upgrade to a 3800X and wait until the next Navi. Really not impressed with the 5700. You’re better off with a Vega 64 for the money.

Thanks for reply.
I did think of making the jump from hex to octo-core..however I fear my little B350 may not be able to really use it to it's full potential.
And I simply cannot justify spending all that money on a 3800X (which doesn't look too impressive IMO in the price/perf category compared to the rest of the ZEN 3 lineup) and having to fork out for a mew motherboard as well.
I guess a Vega 64 or Vega 2 upgrade makes the most sense.
Waiting for prices to drop a bit 'hopefully' when Navi releases..and at least see some benchmarks..

Your GPU should be the limiting factor in your current system, then again, I don't think it's time to upgrade GPU just yet and you could upgrade rest of the system meanwhile.

I know what you mean.
Spending the 300+ on a GPU for either a Vega 56 or the new 5700 doesn't feel worth the money spent, going from an rx580 8gb.
It's a tough call.
Think it's worth saving for the extra 100+ and go for the 5700XT or a competitor's equivalent?
It really is a bad time to upgrade GPUs.. :/
