Hello all.

Built my friend a pc 5 years ago now i think maybe abit less. And all of a sudden fails to go into the bios or OS.

It powers up for a few moments then just dies every time. Tried two PSU and same result. Tested his psu on my 2nd rig and that works. Taken everything out and its down to the board and cpu i think.

intel 3570k I5 and a msi board z77. Going to try this again of course to double check.

Any real way to see which of these have gone ? I have two 1155 motherboard builds so the cpu wont fit in these.

Any advise or tips on how to test next. Thanks to all that reply.

3570k is skt 1155 so it will fit in those. maybe try that? Was it overclocked at all? if it was then maybe try resetting the BIOS?

Seen this 3 or 4 times in the last year. Was the board every time. Not to suggest that it ISNT the cpu. But unlikely based on my limited experience :)

as Roverno says try resetting the bios also have you tried different Ram in the system?

Ive had an FX8350 CPU die on me but I think this is a very rare thing as ive never seen anyone else say there CPU had died.

If you have two other socket 1155 builds, that's the same socket your 3570k fits.

Unfortunately, z77 boards are getting rare and expensive.

Thanks for the replies all. Nice same socket thanks for that. Will try that then.
Kinda suspected board never really seen a cpu fail.

I did say to him it maybe time for a new board cpu ram etc. He purchased new ram like 2 months ago.

Will have a minor gander into z77 boards but if ther getting expensive, cant see much joy in that. See what happens i guess.

Thanks for the replies yet again guys. Will keep you posted on any progress

Tried bios reset no joy at all. Tried no ram and ram in the system still cant get close to anything other than shutting down after 5 secs.

have you tried the ram in another system? I had this happen with my brother in laws pc. it turned out to be faulty ram.

Been away at the g/f house for a couple of days. Just managed to take this out of the case and use the board and psu and ram. Turned it on and it was actually all on for about 3 mins then its doing the normal shut down within 5 secs and restarting.

Same with the ram out. So its probs time for a new build for him to quickly get back up and running.

So its ram board and cpu time i reckon. Everything else will work by the looks of it. I think an i5 bundle will do it then get some ram. I will give different ram ago but i cant see it being no joy.
