CPU or Mobo broken... but which one?

I made a post in the mobo forum earlier about some suspected problems I'm having but have narrowed down the issue further. AS it stands, my PC won't boot up, will not display anything on my monitor, and the graphics card does not power on. There are no beeps or anything to help me identify the problem, but the graphcis card works in an old machine of mine. This leaves the mobo and cpu as likely problems. I've had problems with the mobo before and currently, one of the sata controllers and the onboard LAN are definately broken, so I'd think the Mobo is likely the problem, but is there anyway I can confirm this for sure? The two are obviously closely integrated and I have no other bits and pieces to test them out on their own. Should I just bite the bullet and risk changing the mobo on its own first?

Mobo: Asus A8V deluxe (rev2)
CPU: Athlon 64 3500+
Mem: 1gb Corsair Pro twinX (2x512)
HDD: 160GB DiamondMax 10 - SATA
GPU: Gigabyte Geforce 6800GT

Is your CPU a venice core? If so you may need to update your mobo bios to recognise it.

EDIT : Just read your other post and i noticed your cpu is a winnie.
