CPU overheating help!!

yea tried turning it off and reapplying themal paste, hoping this will help it seems turbo core was pushing up the volts a bit all cores are now sitting roughly at 1.250v none above this.

May invest in a h80 very soon but at what temp should i stop load 60c or 65c? and will it be safe like this for a few weeks say 4 to i gather up some more money? completely skint after buying it all.

have you seen the stock cooler that comes with a 6300?? its pathetic and a freezer 7 is a hell of a lot better!

I've recently used the stock cooler on my sons build with a 6300. While running IBT and Furmark at the same time CPU temp never goes above 58c, and that is when it was warmer weather.

That is in a Bitfenix Merc Beta (no top exaust) x1 rear 120mm fan, x1 120mm front fan and x2 120mm side fans.

At stock clocks there is nothing wrong the the stock cooler at all, you simply need adequate airflow in the case for it to be able to do its job.

OK couple of things. 68c is CPU throttle temp on a 4+1 board. It simply won't go higher it'll throttle to 1.7ghz.

Secondly you need a good cooler. H80 or above. The Freezer 7 was OK and I mean only OK on a core 2 duo, it's about as much use for cooling a 6 core FX as a chocolate teapot is for holding boiling water.

Your board appears to be 6+2, so should be perfectly OK for a 6 core FX but your cooling, without being rude, mate, is laughable.

92mm coolers are soooo 2009

Freezer 7 was pretty exceptional at cooling a core2duo, that was one of the most affordable and enjoyable generations...

i have the same board, and same CPU.

i would recommend getting a different cooler. as these chips do get pretty hot :(

when i got mine, i had a corsair A50, which worked great.

the arctic freezer 7 isnt that good to be honest.

turn the fan around so its blowing the hot air out the back, have front an top as intakes.

Have you removed the plastic from the bottom of the heat sink? worth asking :D

LOL - I did this some years ago with a Waterblock, kept overheating and i phoned the company to say it was a POS...found out later when i changed the paste it had protective clear plastic on the base :o ...it was perfect after, I did call them back to tell them what happened.

Lesson to CPU cooler makers...don't use clear tape! put a pattern or colour on it.

Hmm, did the change of CPU paste make any difference?

If not, new cooler time I guess, a cheap one will even make all the difference :)

I have, but I'm telling you it's absolutely no match for a hex core FX. I used to have a 92mm Noctua cooler and it was total pants on a Phenon 2 940, let alone a FX.

OP - a H80 can be had for £38 or so on OCUK. It's well worth it IMO.

The AMD stock coolers run at about 4,000,000RPM though. :p

Plus it's in more direct contact, I suspect the Freezer 7 can't shift the heat along the heatpipes and away from the CPU fast enough. The AMD FX line kick out a hell of a lot of heat.

It sounds odd to me that a freezer pro, which is certainly better than a stock fan, can't keep it under its max temp. Still, you have a lower delta T to work with than those with 80C ceilings, and if the room is warm as well then I guess you are narrowing the gap further.

You'll be fine for a few weeks, just don't run stress tests and you'll be fine.

ok so it turns out i had the cpu fan wrong way around lol... i thought the actual fan part pushed out air but it actually takes in air since i corrected this my temps reach a max of 52c all the same thanks guys.
