CPU overheating issues.

Inverness,
I am not sure if this should be in watercooling considering the fact that I now have a closed loop attached to my CPU but here goes, also I don't mind if this gets moved :).

I have been having a long term issue with my
FX8150 ( I will get more specs up after I get home)

it seems it likes to over heat when playing certain games, these games are ofcourse some CPU intensive titles such as Guildwars 2 etc.

so heres my question,
since I am overheating, even after setting the cpu voltage in windows to 80%, which used to work in the air cooled setup I used to have (barely) now that I have a closed system, I am getting random shutdowns, which I can only explain as an overheat. The shutdowns are instant and I can switch the machine back on straight away.

I have a feeling I just need to top up the water cooling system, which I will try later in the future when I have the funds to get, at the very least, some kind of funnel/ killcoil to get the fluid in their. But ncase that doesn't work, I thought I would have this post up so I can get some advice, any other diagnostics/ suggestions would also be appreciated also.

also: I can tell its overheating as the coolant liquid is quite warm when I touch the tubes, also I have two outwatd facing fans on the radiator. ( the 2nd was an attempt to fix the over heat issue)

As I have stated earlier - more specs and possibly some photos are coming later as I am at work now so can add everything.

What is the actual temp is the CPU getting to?

I assume the heatsink is properly secured to the CPU.

Don't forget your PSU model When adding the specs.

Specs are as below:

AMD FX 8150 3.6GHz
2 x 1TB HDD
above mentioned cooler for CPU
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Mobo
1x 8GB DDR3 Ram @ 2214 MHz approx
1x MSI Radeon R9 270X 4GB GPU
700W PSU

all held within a Aerocool x-predator Case

Is the cooler clean?
R9 270 dumps a truckload of heat when it's working.
What is the temp of air going into cooler?
Not room temperature, the actual temp of air gong into cooler.

Well the temps of my GPU rarely go above 45oC not sure what the intake is but I have removed the front of my case so it can breathe better for now as the GPU was my first suspicion.

as for CPU I show case temps between 18oC - 30oC (18oC is just in incredibly cold day in my house and my house has been known to get much colder)

its possible my PSU is what is at fault now that I have looked in further, may need to replace it

the PSU itself is cold to the touch when I get one of my insta shutdowns.

the -12V reading is fluctuating between -4.5V and -11.5V I don't think thats healthy. Should be able to get a screenie in of that soon if you want it

What make of psu?
A decent 750w should be giving 62A on the 12v rail but cheap ones will be a lot less.

Have seen wild fluctuations in 12v rail years ago on psu that was fine...could just be a faulty sensor IF you weren't having problems....i would suspect the psu from what you have said so far.

its a storm PSU
also I am having an issue while under load, my E:\ wants to disappear I can make it reappear through disk manager though. that's also making me suspect the PSU

I had issues with my secondary HDD disappearing, even giving out the odd death click now and then and it turned out to be the PSU giving up.

On another note, to help with the CPU, I have been told that BIOS flashing is a possible solution as it is Factory OC'd. I am somewhat apprehensive on this however as it will be a first attempt for me.

I know that you should back up the bios first,
anyone recommend this here/ not recommend. Also I have windows putting the min and max CPU voltage to 80% and I am still having issues,
This helped with the same issue on my stock cooler.

The cooler being clean? I will check that this weeeknd tbh once a have a spare moment and some time to sort other issues I may discover in the process. I will also need to get some compressed air to clean it. I cant check it straight away as I have a fan on either side of the rad.
