Just recently I have noticed my CPU has been overheating. Originally I thought it was because of bad airflow in my new-ish case. But now i think it's something else.

Using CPUID to monitor hardware temps, I can see that my CPU temp shoots straight up to 70c from cold boot and idles at that temp whilst i noob on the internet. My GFX remains steady at 50c and my hardrives around 25 - 30c.

If i am to game now my CPU will increase to 99c quite quickly  My GFX obviously increases in temp as well but well within what you would expect from a system running normally.

My CPU fan (Cooler Master Hyper 212+ heatsink) looks like its running fine spinning at 2k rpm. Although it looks stable, i'm wondering if the CPU heatsink has come away from the CPU slightly or the thermal paste needs re aplying. I hope its nothing too serious like my CPU dying or something! What do you guys think?

Note, I have had this system (sig) for 18 months and it has been very stable, and has given me great performance.

cheers.

i would re-seat the heatsink.
chances are that is has come loose when moving your components into your new case

this,
That would be the first thing i would do, just make sure you have some thermal paste first.
Oh and i wouldn't game or stress the pc until you lower temps ;)

Thanks guys. Thermal paste arrived this morning, and the stuff to remove the old paste.

Will give the re sitting of the cooler a go. I won't be gaming or stressing my machine until the temps drop.

Regarding the thermal paste, does it set quickly, or should I wait a few hours before booting the pc up again?

Boot it up straight away, it works immediately. Your temps will drop another couple of degrees over the next few hours from when you first switch it on

+1 depending on the paste you've chosen has a curing time, basically, in any situation, temps can only get better!
