Ok I have an amd athlon x2 4600 and an a8n32-sli-deluxe motherboard and i'm having problems with my cpu temps.

I'm not overclocking and i've even set the bios to default

My temp will sit at 40 when i'm doing nothing but as soon as a do a simple task like a virus scan or start a program they can rise to 55+ and games will put it to 80+ then my system will restart.

don't know what to do about this. :(

make sure your cpu cooler is seated securely, if this doesnt help perhaps replacing the stock cooling paste with arctic silver may help

Noctua NH-U12F cpu cooler. It's got some arctic silver paste. But this seems problem has only started happening in the last 2 days. Also my case is fairly cool inside. I've even taken the side pannel off. even just sitting in the bios it can overheat than turn off.

If it was me i'd reseat the cooler and apply new paste tbh, doubt its the case temp, is the fan/heatsink clear of dust? clean it out if not. Overheating in BIOS aint good, and while not idle in BIOS it should never overheat

EDIT: Even stock paste isnt that bad... 80C+ is waaayyy too high!

If it's just started happening for no reason then it's most likely a faulty temp sensor. Could also be the motherboard overvolting it.

The fan is spinning normally, atm i've just switch my pc on and the temp shows 31. I Will maybe take the cooler off when I get some more thermal paste and have a look. But as soon as I start a game it will rise to 80+ then just switch the pc off. The temp in the case is fine.

Think it maybe something wrong with the bios tbh. When i'm sitting in windows doing nothing it will sit at 37. But as soon as a start a task like a virus scan that will rise very quikly and overheat.

Tried this seems to be better now fingers crossed.:) Took the heat sink off and cleaned it all and reapply thermal paste. Now it sits at 38 when i'm doing nothing at rises to about 45 when i'm doing virus scans ect. so hopefully sorted.
