CPU Overheating?

I have just changed over tower and think my cpu cooler might not be on correctly.

Before it had four fans and was running at 30-40 idle and 60-65 on full

But now i have changed over to a new tower I have less fans but they are bigger. Idle is down to about 25-30 which is great but on full it begins to throttle.

I think the case is cooler than before as even the graphics card is down about 5-10 degrees.

But why would it be cooler on idle than it was before but over heating on full?

Any advice?

One thing I do remember is that I out a lot of thermal paste on, could i have put too much on?

Coretemp readings

Tj Max 85degrees
Core#0 35degrees
Core#01 31degrees

When you say reseat the heatsink you mean the cpu fan?

So is a thin spread of paste better? I think I over did it and put it on both the cpu and heatsink bit.

So do I just apply a reasonable amount on the cpu only, I think I went over kill.
