CPU overheating

Hey,

My computer is shutting down under load, found out its a result of the CPU overheating. Upon inspection it seems my cpu is overclocked but in the bios it is not. Have reset CMOS but it remains that the frequency using core temp is at 2811.18 (133.87x21) when it should be 2.66ghz (133*20).

Anyone know the reason why? Don't have any thermal paste at the moment so can't try that.

Check the CPU settings in your BIOS what is your multiplier set to ?

Those temps dont look that bad for an i5 750 what is your CPU cooler ? Have you done the usual and cleaned the inside of your case and have good airflow ?

other thing to check is dust build up in the CPU fan, when was the last time it was checked or cleaned as this could be causing a issue getting rid of the heat.

I have a I7 950 at 3.6ghz and it sits about 62C with a venom after market CPU cooler. might also worth checking that the cpu cooler hasn't come loose at all.

a re seat and re paste of thermal would be something worth doing once you get some

Thanks for your help guys. The multiplier was set to 20x but the boost was on.

Was using an intel stock cooler for the past 3+ years, surprised it lasted that long! Have bought an antec freezer 13, hopefully that performs a bit better!
