CPU overheating

Ive got a few issues with a CPU overheating, i have an AMD FX 8320 CPU cooled by a Corsair H55 all in one water cooler, well allegedly its cooled by that device, all has been running well for quite some time, but now i keep getting warnings about CPU temperatures via ASUS AI suite2, using that same app the average temperature when idle is around 60C, going up to 75-80c when web browsing/watching youtube etc. If i'm doing anything intensive the temperature sky-rockets up to 85C and my pc just shuts off immediately.

I've taken the fans off, cleaned out all the dirt and dust as well as taking the pup off the cpu, cleaning off the old paste and re-applying but its made no difference, the only thing ive noticed is a slight sound, a bubbling noise almost like chips frying every now and again, and an odd whirring noise from the pump.
when its making the noise the temps shoot up, if i hit it ( gently) with the back of a screwdriver the noise stops for a while and temperatures go down

any pointers ?

In the asus program can you see the RPM of the fans and more importantly the RPM of the pump (which may appear as a fan because its just another motor anyway)

The idea is to know if the pump is at the right speed. Any kind of speed limiting on it is not good, they are meant to be run at 12v at full speed all the time.

Yeaaah I'm going to say the fan header its on is somehow limiting the speed and its not liking it.

For reference my corsair H50 (still going strong from 2009) is at 2355rpm as I type.

If you have no fan speed controlling software then the motherboard is doing it. Restart your computer and look in the bios for fan speed controls and turn off anything that talks about quiet modes etc.

thanks, disabled something called Qspeed, but it made no difference.
Also tried running the pump direct from the PSU 12 volt out

one odd thing, if my PC is on its side it takes longer to heat up and only the bottom part of the radiator gets warm, the tubes get warmer the closer they get to the pump

edit: vertical stood uprigth CPU temperatures get to 70C+ and theres a slight gurgling noise, on its side temps sit at 46C

Regarding pump speed it would appear the H55 is meant to be running at a lower speed of 1500-1700.

If the 1-2 fans attached to the radiator are running fine and you're not running it in a closed cupboard and there's no overclock then temps are excessive.

If physically poking the pump or changing orientation of the case and therefore the pump/radiator is affecting temps then something inside the loop is not well be it air, foreign body or construction.

I'd take it out give it a shake and try the radiator in a different orientation if possible e.g. pipes at bottom/top maybe even side if you can.

If still acting up you should see what your options are to get replaced, how long have you had it.
