i bought an intel P8600 cpu for my laptop, this was to give me an upgrade and user a cooler cpu than my current one.

Anyway i took the laptop to bits, went to fit the cpu but it was not sitting in the socket, i checked it and found one bent pin, i think it must have been sent like this as the packaging was fine, i straightened the pin with my finger and it looked nice and straight then i fitted the cpu using fresh TIM, assembled the laptop and now it does not post at all.

do you guys reckon its defo the bent pin or the cpu that causing my laptop not to post?

the model is compaq CQ70-211EM

i thought i would find out if its likely the cpu first before fitting the original cpu as its a lot of work to replace it, i thought i would get a another replacement and fit it to keep the work to a minimum.

the seller refunded my money right away, makes you wonder if he really tests them though or just hoping for the best.

i saw a video where a tech had a cpu with a broken pin which broke off, he fitted the broken pin in the correct socket hole, fitted the cpu on top of it and it actually worked, so im thinking maybe the bent pin i fixed is not an issue.

heres the list from the manual for cpu's, my original one was to t3400

Did you update your BIOS to the latest one before you stuck in the new cpu ?
That happened a friend of mine he upgraded his laptop and it refused to work so he put back in the old cpu updated the BIOS and it worked .

not particularly, i've handled hundreds with no adverse effect. My money would be on a dead cpu, I've straightened plenty of pins with no problems too.

ok cheers for that, i kinda suspected it may have been a diff cpu but as i aint come across any cpu with a bent pin i had to ask. ;)
