cpu pins

Less metal on the cpu therefore less cost. Slightly easier manufacturing process therefore less cost.

The mobo manufacturer picks up the cost.
But what they going to do. Hardly going to stop making boards for Intel chips.

As for repair. Intel would much rather you bought a new cpu than repaired your broken one.

In addition pin density, its more dam elegant.
Call me mad but I prefer with pins on the board. Pins on the cpu is just unsightly. It looks so wasteful. Luckily never had a mishap.
In fact it bugs me that AMD will not be moving to LGA socket for AM4.

I prefer pins on the board. Although I have had one incident when fitting my 2600k, managed to bend a pin, no idea how, I'm always very gentle with it. Had more issues with bent pins on the CPU though.
