Hey all

just got a new bundle and it came with a shroud to position the cpu correctly in the socket.

do I have to use it? should it stay on?

noob questions but a bit confused.

By 'shroud' do you mean the plastic bit that sits on top of the socket? Or the hinged metal frame clip? If it's the plastic cover then throw it away. The CPU should sit under the hinged clip (assuming Intel ofc)

Hey mate. I got a separate shroud that's supposed to help position the chip
Never heard of one before tbh
I seated the chip first and there is a small amount of play when it's sat in the socket.
I'll lob it away, was just confused about it that's all

Do you mean one of these? I don't really see that one is needed so it's up to you if you use it or not. Do not throw away the motherboard socket cover. You will need this if you have to rma the motherboard so just place it in the motherboard box with the rest of the bits you don't use.

yeah that's it.
So it does stay fitted. I never thought to look on Asus's website

I won't throw the socket cover away. I know you need to keep them.

thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
