Hello,

I am putting together old parts to build a pc for a friend who needs a windows machine.

Everything is built but the psu i have is fully modular and i dont seem to have the 8pin v12 cpu power cable

The motherboard has an 8 pin female slot and the psu has an 8 pin female slot.

I cannot find a 8pin cpu power cable that is male to male anywhere!

can anyone assist?

TLDR:
I need this but male to male, the left connector in the picture.

What PSU is it? Is there no 8Pin cable at all I assume from the modular cables?

If you don't have one you're a bit stuck tbh, it is required to have that cable in - hopefully the PSU manufacturer can help you out with a replacement

So this is to plug from the PSU itself into the the motherboard as it is fully modular, right? If so, anything apart from cables from the series of PSU/the exact PSU model itself won't help as many manufacturers use different pinouts on their power supply ports and cables cables, so there's basically no generic male -> male cable you could use apart from the modular cable that is for your PSU

Spend some money and get a PSU from a proper manufacture.

Is that my only option? I'd rather not spend the money tbh.

I read online that I can use the 4pin cpu power cable and only use 4 of the 8 pins on the motherboard but dont expect to overclock doing that.

Pretty much, why trust something that cost a tenner? would you like your heart replaced with a potato and some cheap parts to make a basic battery?

Correct, but the PSU is naff and should not be trusted.

Yes I've run a few motherboards with a 4pin ATX in an 8 pin socket on the motherboard. Check the manual it will indicate which 4 pins to use. Actually the socket will probably only allow the 4 pin plug to be used in one position.

1st rule of PC building, decent PSU and best graphics you can afford if you want to play games on it. Sorry that's 2 rules :-)

Andi.
