Noticed a lot of e-tailors have price creep with CPU's getting more and more expensive. Wondering if anyone has an idea to when they will drop back? for instance the i7 4790k was £220-£230 a few weeks back now a lot of places have it up for over £260.

thoughts?

There was a post about it not too long ago, prices went up due to the pound being weaker vs the dollar due to the Scottish referendum uncertainty.
Of course now the pound has recovered you would expect the prices to come down....

It will be the same as the mechanical hard drive issues when the factories were under water. The price doubled and stayed there for a year after they were back in production. Once the retailers have an excuse they use it.

Stayed there for a year? No, they never dropped back and are still as expensive as ever.

Only on decent CPU's. AMD's CPU's are getting cheaper everyday..

lol you enjoyed that one I reckon ;)

The prices have increased sadly despite the uk quid coming back stronger kinda reminds me of hard drive prices imo they never quite full recovered and manufacturers still cash in!

Don't forget companies will buy stock at the prevailing rate at the time. So you may find it takes time for the stronger exchange rate to show up in retail...

Suggest you have another look, the price per gb has actually dropped.

Looking back at my history, i have a purchase on:

26th March 2010, a 1.5Tb drive @ £84.98 (@5.5p per gb)

25th Jan 2011, a 1Tb drive @ 40.99 (~4p per gb)

12th Aug 2014, a 4Tb drive @ 118.00 (~2.88p per gb)

So, they're only "still as expensive" because the sizes have increased.

I dunno... 5820k's seem a decent price, makes the 4790k look like a rip off.

I think the hexacore will become the high end gamers choice when DDR4 and the X99 mobos come down a bit.

I got two 2TB drives before the floods for £43 each.

Please show me where I can get the same 2TB drives for the same price.

Please show me where I can get the same 2TB drives for £40 each again.

Got a receipt? Those were clearly on some special offer, considering i got a 1Tb drive at an average price, 9 months before the floods at £40 each.

And you won't see a 2Tb drive at a low price any more because the demand is now for larger sized drives. The same reason the price per gigabyte is a lot higher for 1Tb drives compared to 4Tb drives.

Yes, since s...n saves your order history.

You right on one thing, they was on a offer but you only save £1/2. The normal price was £45.

Prices have come down a lot and are nearing the best prices before the flooding.
And certainly way down from the peak, just after the floods.

The £45 offers for 2 GB wasn't around that long, most of the time you had to pay £50+. So £22.50 per GB @ £45, or £20 per GB for the £40 deal.

Now you can buy 3TB drive for £80, so £26.66 per GB and they are faster drives. And I have seen these go for £70 (23.33 per GB) with special offers, shame I already had mine. :<

Got your GB and TB mixed up, I sometimes do it. ;)

I think AMD CPUs are having great prices for their performance at the moment. But they have many drawback such as limited choice of motherboard, quite hot, consumer decent level of power and based on a very old architecture. But performance wise, they are great.
