Cpu prices set to rise

Intel price increase comes into effect 29th of this month, we are well stocked so will hold current prices beyond this point. :)

Hey Gibbo,

do you have any news on ASUS products, as they are saying a 30% increase coming too. It's all over the news at the moment regarding price increases from them, Lenovo also stated same and can't remember who else recently too.

A lot of ASUS already shot up but we’re very well stocked.

Oh my, I do not use a console, but having just read the up-and-coming price increases, up to $150, for theirs the whole situation continues to worsen.
With Asus raising prices and then CPU's on top this does not bode well for many.

They are going to kill off pc gaming with all this greed. I certainly will not pay these ridiculous prices and even second hand stuff is overpriced now. Even the MM has seen big price rises since profiteering was allowed. Sad times indeed.

They're not looking to kill off PC gaming, they're hoping to force people into streaming/cloud services like GeForce Now.

Insert "you'll own nothing" meme here.

Not just gaming PC's the rise of component prices are pricing the 'bog standard' home / office PC to the 'we will wait to upgrade' pricing now too.

Of course they are going up. Intel/AMD were never going to look at the ram prices and then not want their pound of flesh as well.
This is the issue with the duopoly that we have. Once they both agree on something, it's time to pay up or shut up.

These industries have simply become far too expensive and time consuming for new players to enter. The Chinese may get there eventually, but that could be a decade away.

Intel certainly don’t want rent hardware. Dell and HP provide a fortune for Intel. AMD almost certainly doesn’t want its money tied up either.

Intel/AMD sell to cloud providers in the form of servers from the likes of HPE and Dell. Cloud providers purchase said servers and rent out services to consumers.

Markups on the server CPUs are massive - Intel/AMD are very happy

Nobody thinks AMD or Intel are going to be renting out their hardware. This isn't a complicated model to see coming to fruition in the future. It's very worrying just how realistic it's becoming.

Yeah the cloud is a thing, but see the above posts. It would be a terribly risky model for any semiconductor manufacturer to rent out hardware.

Wonder how long before cases start to rise due to a "shortage" of metal...
While everything else is pretty much in the toilet, I can only assume cases will have to go down, at least in the short-mid term - Very large items comparitively, so taking up a lot of warehouse space at the same time that people will be less inclined to build new systems due to the cost of everything else involved!
I would have been looking at a platform upgrade (or GPU) in the next year or so, but given how things are now I'm basically just looking at keyboards and aestetic things (but already have a new case which I've been procrastiniating on rebuilding :P ), or spending on other things outside of computers/gaming

While I'd hate an all cloud future. GeForce Now feels pretty good. Limited games catalogue, and terrible mod support are the big issues for me.

But I can see the appeal for some people, no messing about with hardware upgrades, no game downloads, no noise, minimal power usage etc

I'm not personally bothered about owning things, once I get my use out of a game I'm done with it. I tend to like Ubisoft, EA subscriptions etc over paying a one off for the ultimate package etc. But I get I'm likely in the minority.
