I doubt it will come down.. Its been 2.5 years and its dropped 50 quid.
Also even the value I5 outperform them.
(I think you are right about 775 though. I still have 2 rigs running Q6600 and Q9550. Didn't feel the "need" to upgrade to i7 but felt I "should")

It's a bit ridiculous isn't it?
I picked up an E7200 (3.2 stock volts) last September for £37 posted on the bay and that was a good upgrade over the E4400 previously.
The high prices and high power consumptions of the Q9 (and Q6 even) make the move to quad unattractive to me.
Saying that, there's nothing the machine can't do (don't game, do rip dvd to x264 but it's perfectly fast), so I probably won't be upgrading for a while...
