The reason im asking you these questions is i had probs with the temp of my cpu reaching bout 80 c i got a new cooler and it dropped to 61 c , what i wanted to do was speed up the cpu fan i tried speed fan but did not really understand it, so i went i to the bios and had a look and the power monitor settings and its said my fan speed was 301 rpm very low indeed, there was an option in there called q fan control if this was enabled and i had a further 2 options cpu fan ratio and target temp, the lowest target temp was 60c which i found strange cos i wanted it to be around the 40c mark and i did not understand the cpu fan ratio the ratios were from 35% up to 100% any ideas what that means? anyway sorry to be waffling on, i disabled this feature and when i checked the fan speed and temps again the speed was 2500rpm much better and the temp went down to 50c, i would like to get it a bit lower and i was hoping you might be able to help me with the info i have given you.

thanks again for your reply mate

What CPU cooler are you using? Those temps do look a bit high. Have you checked to see that the CPU is seated properly and that the compound is applied thinly?

Which CPU and which cooler?

The ratio sounds like the ratio of full speed which the fan can drop to if the CPU temperatures are fine. So in theory if you set it to 35% it shouldn't drop to 35% fan speed unless CPU temps are fine. No way it should ever be running 300 rpm.

Temps still sound high. Check the HSF is clipped down fully and making good contact with the CPU and check there's sufficient thermal compound. Check the fan is spinning freely and sounds normal.

1st of all the cooler i have is a new 1 i put in yesterday its the artic cooler freezer 7 pro really good one, the thermal paste came all ready applied and as far as i no i fitted it ok, back to the temp prob and it seems to be ok now i disabled the q fan control option and when i restarted my pc i checked the temps in everest and my CPU was 45c with fan running at 2500rpm much better i must say the mobo temp was 32c and hd temp was the same 32c my ati radeon x1300 card is 48c i no that from the ati system tray for some reason it does not state the temp in everest, like i said things seem to be ok now since i disabled the q fan option, i didnt really no how to use it but the option by default is enabled for some reason but who cares i would like to learn how to do it manualy, tried speed fan but to confusing for me.

Last thing i got my packard bell pc from pc world it has an asus motherboard didnt get any cd's with it etc and i went to download the asus pc probe program and when i went to install it, it came up not a asus motherboard how does that work any ideas?

many thanks guys

sorry mate i dont suppose you could help explain this to me could you?

i went i to the bios and had a look and the power monitor settings and its said my fan speed was 301 rpm very low indeed, there was an option in there called q fan control if this was enabled and i had a further 2 options cpu fan ratio and target temp, the lowest target temp was 60c which i found strange cos i wanted it to be around the 40c mark and i did not understand the cpu fan ratio you could change the % it went from 35% up to 100% any ideas what that means?
