cpu/ram clock/timings all wrong at default?

I built up a new PC recently, those being an Intel E6700, Abit AW9D Max mobo (flashed to latest revision), and Crucial Ballistix 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel RAM.

I am wondering if its correct in the CMOS to be overclocking my CPU to 2720MHz as default when it should be 2.66GHz. As a result, its also pushed my ram to 408MHz (816MHz in Dual Channel) Lowering the external clock to 267MHz puts this at the correct cpu speed and passes the Intel Processer ID Utility, as well as the RAM at 400MHz (or 401 i think :/). I don't even know what to set anymore, I don't want to overclock but want the specs to be perfectly synched to how it should run.

I've also have the problem of the RAM's SPD doing a timing of 5-5-5-15 and running at only 2.0 volts, when crucial's page for my ram clearly states 4-4-4-12 and 2.2 volts: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=7CB59427A5CA7304 what should I set? I've manually set it at 4-4-4-12 and 2.2v without any issues whatever though, but I'm not really sure. I've had oddities in Windows that weren't present in my older system, like some bad latency of clicking active windows, or an old Jasc PSP7 app taking 10secs to load, which is really annoying, and I'm partly blaming it on CMOS settings cos I don't know what else it could be.

Bump

I'm guessing this isn't a common occurance and CPU/RAM/Mobo or a combination of them is faulty?

I did once have a prescott cpu that didn't set the clock correctly but didn't care so much for it since it wasn't a PC i was going to use much.

hi, i have that cpu and that motherboard in my machine. just i have corsair ram.

when i built my machine it defaulted the ram to 5-5-5-15 2volts when it should have been 4-4-4-12 2.3v this is perfectly normaly and is nothing to worry about you just have to change them to what it shoudl be.

as for the cpu i cant rememebr what mine read when i put it in as i overclocked it 10 mins later to 3.3ghz. you can change it back to the 267mhz fsb if you like. but the small overclock that is on it is no need to worry.

as for the odities in windows hmm not sure i doubt its *** settings that will have caused it though.

Looks like a common case of the mobo getting the Auto values wrong. You might need to bump up the VDIMM on the RAM 0.2V for 2.2 then manually set the timings to 4-4-4-12.

The chipset in that board is quite old and tends to sometimes get the timings and the voltage wrong. Its not uncommon.
